About Us

EffectiveArts, Inc. is a training and development firm dedicated to organizations being successful with their missions and being great places to work. EffectiveArts is based on the wedding of social science research methodologies and the arts. To date, EffectiveArts staff have offered more than 1,000 educational experiences for more than 17,000 people. EffectiveArts was founded and is directed by Dr. Jim Boggs.

Jim is a social science researcher, an actor, and a former computer hardware and software designer. Jim's two primary areas of academic research are community development ("How can we think and work together effectively for a better shared future?") and the nature of difference-making arts ("How and why is art so powerful?"). Before moving to Seattle, Jim lived on the East African island of Zanzibar for six years where he worked with local artists to develop outreach performances and materials for international development agencies. Jim holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering (computer hardware design) and a Masters and Doctorate in Communications.  A selected list of Jim's academic works and presentations can be found  here.

Fiona is a social science researcher and naturalist. Her primary areas of research include environmental communication and public understanding of science. Fiona holds a BSc. in Physics, and a Masters and Doctorate in Communications.

Jim and Fiona are joined by an on-call staff of doctoral-level researchers, highly experienced facilitators, and a pool of 200 uniquely trained professional actors across the US and abroad.
